Yellena Turic
Yellena Turic is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in a direct engagement with the human form. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University, where she developed her foundation in drawing and painting. Her work begins with live model sessions, capturing the vitality of movement and expression through various dynamic poses. The initial drawings serve as the foundation for a transformative studio process, where they are deconstructed and reimagined into abstract landscapes. The resulting works infuse the human form with new poetic significance.
Working primarily with charcoal, pastels, and oil paints, Yellena employs a rich and tactile approach to mark-making. Her work continues to evolve, inviting viewers to consider the fluid boundaries between reality and imagination.
Her teaching goal is to show students how to express shape and form-to capture convincing and beautiful three-dimensionality in drawing and painting.
